Патріарх Кирил радить «знизити градус кипіння»

Під стінами «Українського дому» в Києві - прапори ВО «Свободи» і УНА-УНСО. На вулиці Костельній не поспішаючи йдуть поодинокі віруючі. Перші продовжили театральний сезон п'єсою «Гламурні гастролі кремлівського гебіста», інші - мовчазно долають міліцейські кордони і прямують на Володимирську гірку, де Патріарх Московській і всієї Русі Кирил відслужив молебень.
«Свободівці» і «унсовці» (а ще, представники Української народної партії і Конгресу українських націоналістів - всього з сотню людей) демонструють квиток на потяг для предстоятеля Російської православної церкви до рідної Росії. А після розгортають найбільший – сорокап’ятиметровий - прапор України.
Організатори акції, формально присвяченій 145-й річниці з дня народження Митрополита Української греко-католицької церкви Андрія Шептицького, а фактично - протестам проти приїзду Кирила, ввічливо просять кремезного підполковника посунути кордон хоч би метрів на п'ять. Той так само ввічливо кидає: «Хлопці, не можна». З Костельної до підніжжя «Українського дому» поспішає підкріплення - ще декілька десятків бійців внутрішніх військ замикають кільце з жовто-блакитним стягом всередині. Із замкнутого простору доносяться голоси: «Раби, підніжки, бруд Москви...»

Polish prime miniser Donald Tusk wants an explanation from Moscow as to why it has not yet provided evidence from a plane crash that killed President Lech Kaczynski and 95 other people in April.
Mr Tusk said Monday (2 August) that the interior minister and head of an investigation commission, Jerzy Miller, should during his forthcoming visit to Russia tell Moscow that Poland "categorically" expects documents needed for the ongoing inquiry.

СБУ вийшла за рамки своїх повноважень, викликаючи на «бесіду» блогера й журналіста Олега Шинкаренка.

Таку думку висловив перший заступник глави комітету Верховної Ради з питань свободи слова Андрій Шевченко, передає Коммерсант.

«Дії СБУ є недружніми стосовно блогерів і можуть бути частиною тиску на свободу в інтернеті»,- заявив він.

KYIV -- The new director of Ukraine's National Memory Institute says that while the 1932-1933 famine in Ukraine was "the result of difficult circumstances," it was not artificially provoked, RFE/RL's Ukrainian Service reports.

Millions of Ukrainians died in the famine, which was at least partly the result of restrictions imposed by Soviet leader Josef Stalin on farmers across the Soviet Union.

Valery Soldatenko told RFE/RL that he drafted a resolution on the famine that was adopted by Ukraine's Communist Party in January 1990, and he has not revised his view since then.

Starting August 1 households and municipal heat and power engineering facilities will have to pay 50% more for natural gas, according to the regulation #812 issued by the National commission on energy.

Earlier Yuriy Khivrych, development and construction minister said that the tariffs for households will be increased in mid-October when the heating season starts.

By the end of the year Ukraine might have a reliable ally in negotiations with Russia, the Nezavisimaya Gazetadaily concluded following a meeting between Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov and EU Energy Commissioner Gunther Oettinger in Kiev.
By saying that Ukraine may join the European Energy Community within 12 months, for the first time Oettinger cautiously backed Ukraine’s opinion that South Stream’s construction might prove inexpedient. Days ago Azarov presented an alternative to the expensive gas pipeline project – the modernization of pipelines in southern Ukraine that would allow the transit of the same quantities of gas to the Bulgarian city of Burgas that South Stream would.
In spite of good relations with the new Ukrainian government Russia is not willing to forfeit the project, even though it would make the Ukrainian gas transit network completely useless.

Ukraine's president wants to achieve unlocking of talks on free trade zone with EU

Ukraine's President Viktor Yanukovych has signed an instruction to unlock talks on the creation of a free trade zone with the European Union.

The president's press service reported on Saturday that Yanukovych instructed Ukrainian Premier Mykola Azarov, Economy Minister Vasyl Tsushko and Foreign Minister Kostiantyn Hryschenko to draw up an agreed and consolidated position of Ukraine aimed at unlocking of the talks with the European Union on the creation of a free trade zone and submit it to the president.
